The building

In the spring of 2004, a new landmark addition to london’s skyline opened in the financial district. the insurance company Swiss Re commissioned the uniquely shaped 41-story tower designed by Foster and Partners.

The solution

30 st Mary Axe is served by KONE elevators. There are sixteen high-speed, double-height high-capacity KONE Alta™ passenger elevators arranged in three banks, each serving a third of the office floors. In addition, there are goods and firefighter elevators, as well as a car park elevator to the reception from the basement. Two special shuttle elevators serve the top floors of the building. KONE Alta™ fulfilled the architects’ requirements for customized elevator cars and signalization. The emphasis on ecology is reflected in elevator technology as well: KONE is well known in the field for energy efficiency and environmental consideration.
